Frequent travellers know (or should know) how beneficial travel credit cards can be. The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite is no exception.
In our CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite review, we break down the rewards program, insurance coverage, and the pros and cons of the card so you can decide if this is the right travel credit card for you.
CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite: an overview
The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite card offers a range of features, including unlimited lounge access, a comprehensive travel insurance package, 24/7 concierge service, and no foreign transaction fees.
Cardholders also receive access to a range of discounts and offers through the CIBC Advantage program.
With up to 35,000 Aventura points as a welcome bonus, the credit card can offer numerous savings and benefits to travellers.
CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite rewards
The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite offers a welcome bonus of up to 35,000 Aventura points — the first 15,000 being awarded for the first after your first purchase, and the remaining 20,000 if you make $3,000 in purchases in the first four months.
The dollar value on this depends on what you spend your points on, but with 35,000 points, you can buy a flight within Canada and the U.S. with a value of up to $800. The annual fee is also waived for the first year and will be waived every year for those with a CIBC Smart Plus™ Account.
The card offers a rewards program that allows cardholders to earn Aventura points for every dollar spent on purchases. Cardholders earn:
- 2 Aventura points for every $1 spent on travel purchased through the CIBC Rewards Centre
- 1.5 Aventura points for every $1 spent at eligible gas stations, EV charging stations, grocery stores, and drug stores
- 1 Aventura point for every $1 spent on all other purchases
The value of 1 Aventura point varies depending on how it is redeemed.
For example, long-haul flights within Canada and the United States with a value of up to $800 can be redeemed for 25,000 to 35,000 points. Flights to Europe on the other hand can range from 50,000 to 70,000 points. Points can also be redeemed for other travel expenses (hotels, car rentals), charity donations, merchandise, or gift cards. Depending on what you would like to redeem, point values vary, but typically fall between 0.7 cents to 2.5 cents per 1 point.
Aventura points earned with the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite can be redeemed through the CIBC Rewards Centre. The process of redeeming Aventura points is straightforward and can be done in a few simple steps:
- Log in to the CIBC Rewards Centre: Cardholders can access the CIBC Rewards Centre by logging in to their CIBC online banking account or by visiting the CIBC Rewards Centre website.

Our final thoughts
The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite is an excellent choice for frequent travellers who are looking for a premium travel rewards credit card. Unlike other travel rewards credit cards, the Aventura program allows you to travel with numerous airlines. The card also offers a hefty welcome bonus and points can quickly accumulate if you’re using the Aventura for travel-related purchases.
However, it’s not ideal for individuals who don’t travel frequently, or who don’t make enough purchases to justify the annual fee.
