Canada’s most beloved coffee franchise, Tim Hortons, is now offering customers a dedicated Tim Hortons Credit Card. Launched on July 24, 2023, the new Tims Credit Card is powered by Calgary-based Neo Financial and issued by Mastercard.

If you’re looking for the full scoop on this exciting new addition to the Canadian credit card market, you’ll find everything you need to know here in our Tim Hortons Credit Card review.

Tim Hortons Credit Card: an overview

With the Tim Hortons Credit Card, you can earn Tims rewards points on more than just your coffee and donuts, and redeem them for your favourite snacks and beverages at Tims. And there are no monthly or annual fees to worry about.

There’s also a secured credit card option for those with a poor credit score or no credit history. If you’re eligible and can provide a minimum $50 security deposit, you can apply with no hard credit check required. So, if you’re looking to build your credit while racking up Tims points on your daily purchases, this card could be a game changer.

Plus, the welcome offer of up to 5,000 Tims Rewards Points is valid for both the unsecured and secured versions of the Tim Hortons Credit Card.

Tim Hortons Credit Card rewards

The Tims Credit Card allows you to earn Tims rewards points on daily purchases, such as groceries, gas, and transit. Let’s take a closer look at exactly how this card earns rewards.

  • Groceries: Earn 5 points per $1 spent (excluding Walmart and Costco)
  • Gas & EV charging: Earn 5 points per $1 spent (excluding Costco gas)
  • Transit: Earn 5 points per $1 spent on transit, taxi, and rideshare purchases
  • Tim Hortons restaurants: Earn 15 points per $1 when you scan for Tims Rewards
  • All other purchases: Earn 1 point per $2 spent on eligible purchases

One of the major perks of the new Tims Credit Card is a healthy welcome offer of up to 5,000 rewards points. Get 2,000 points once you make a purchase within the first 30 days of opening your account. Following that, you can earn an extra 1,000 points when you spend $200 or more in the second, third, and fourth months.

This is a time limited offer, however, so you’ll need to apply before September 24th, 2023 to take advantage.

Rewards are capped at a maximum spend of $20,000 per year. That means once you’ve spent more than that amount using your Tims credit card, the rewards structure drops in all categories to 1 point per $2 spent.

Your Tims points can be redeemed at participating Tim Hortons locations across Canada.

Tims® Financial is built into the Tim Hortons app, so you can create your account, track your points, and redeem your rewards all within the app.

Tim Hortons Credit Card eligibility

In order to be approved for the Tim Hortons Credit card, you need to be:

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • The age of majority in your province

There are no explicit requirements regarding credit scores or income thresholds noted by Tim Hortons. If you’re not able to qualify, the secured version of the Tims Credit Card is another option that operates on a different rewards system. But the same eligibility requirements apply.

Our final thoughts

The new Tims Credit Card is perfect for those loyal customers who want to take their rewards points to the next level. While the interest rates available are far from competitive, this card is really all about offering customers the chance to maximize their Tims Rewards by earning lots of points on regular spending categories.

Sure, there are plenty of better options out there when it comes to rewards credit cards. However, if you’re excited by the idea of using your everyday purchases to cash in at Tims, chances are this card is for you.
